What is Garden Defense?
Garden Defense is a lane-defense game, the kind where you plant defenders on a grid lawn and the enemies march in row by row. Here the defenders are twikoi's potted creatures and garden friends, and the enemies are her ants, beetles, bees, butterflies and worms.
You plant with ink. Ink drops fall from the sky, and your ink makers drip more; tap the drops to collect them. Every friend costs ink and has a short recharge, so you have to plan where each one goes.
There are 24 levels across four parts of the garden, and some end with a giant beetle boss.
How to play
- Pick up to 8 friends to bring into a level.
- Tap a friend's card, then tap a square on the lawn to plant it.
- Tap the ink drops to collect them. Plant ink makers early so you never run out.
- Stop the bugs before they reach the end of a row. Each row has one last-chance planet that saves it once.
- Survive every wave to clear the level. Clear levels to meet new friends.
Features
- 12 garden friends, each with a job: shooters, ink makers, walls, a bomb, a slower, a chomper, spikes and a stare that freezes the whole lawn.
- Bugs that behave differently: bees hop over the first friend, butterflies flutter between rows, worms dig under shots, antlered beetles charge.
- Giant beetle bosses on flag waves that call in more bugs.
- A 1× / fast-forward button.
- A step-by-step tutorial on the first level.
- A Garden Guide that explains every friend and bug and links to them on her site.
Modes, levels and unlocks
- 24 levels
- Four parts of the garden: Front Lawn, Strawberry Patch, Night Garden and Bone Orchard. Up to 3 stars per level, 72 in all.
- New friends
- You start with the toothy planter shooter. A new friend joins after levels 1, 2, 3, 5, 7, 9, 11, 13, 15, 17 and 19.
Tips
- Plant two or three ink makers in the back column before anything else.
- Put walls in front of your shooters, not behind them.
- Tall walls stop bees and butterflies; spikes poke worms digging underground.
- Keep the stare ready for the moment a giant beetle shows up.
Who will like Garden Defense?
Garden Defense is for anyone who likes planning, tower defense and lane games. The first levels are short and teach one new friend at a time, so it is easy to get into even if you have never played this kind of game.
Later levels mix fast, flying and digging bugs with giant beetles, so you have to think about where every friend goes. It is a satisfying game for longer sessions, with 72 stars to collect.
Each new friend changes how you plan a lawn, so the game keeps feeling fresh all the way to level 24.
