What is Ink Lines?
Ink Lines is a free physics puzzle made with twikoi's creatures. Each page is a sketchbook page with one of her creatures on it, and you have a pen.
Draw one line with your finger. When you lift it, the ink turns solid and the page plays: her bugs drop from their threads, a planet rolls down a slope, the treat rolls toward the bowl. If your line is in the right place, the sleeper sleeps on, the treat lands home, or two round friends meet.
Every page runs on the game's own step-by-step physics, so the same line always does the same thing. Each page's recorded answer is played back by our test before you see it: all 84 pages and the daily pages can be won with three stars, and doing nothing never wins.
How to play
- Draw a line: press, slide and lift. When you lift your finger, the ink turns solid and the page plays.
- Your ink is heavy. It falls and tumbles like a real thing, so give it something to rest on: the edges of a gap, a ledge, or even the sleeper, like a blanket.
- Keep them asleep. Bugs hang from threads and drop when the page plays. Keep them out of the sleeper's dotted dream ring.
- Get the treat home: into the bowl, or to the creature in the gold ring. Two round friends with a dotted line between them need to meet.
- Less ink, more stars. The ink meter shows what is left; stay in the ★★★ part for three stars. ↶ undoes a line, 🗑 clears them, ⟲ tries again. Stuck? 💡 shows a line that works and says why.
- On a computer: draw with the mouse. Z undoes, C clears, Enter plays the page, R tries again, H shows a hint.
Features
- 84 pages in seven chapters, each adding one idea: sleepy heads, rolling, nudging, a small pot of ink, moving parts, springs and bubbles, and a big page that mixes them.
- Every page comes with a recorded answer that our test plays back in the real physics: each one wins with three stars, and doing nothing loses.
- Made for fingers: a magnifier above your finger shows where the ink goes, lines can't go through things, and the page never scrolls.
- More than one way: most pages have several known answers, and the game counts every different way you find.
- A lesson you play, not read: it waits for the line it is teaching and says why another line won't do.
- Her creatures react: sleepers breathe and snore, jump awake when a bug lands on them, and hop when you win; her hearts burst out.
- Stars for little ink, picture pages every 4 pages, a book of every creature you keep asleep or help, and a daily page to share.
Modes, levels and unlocks
- Chapters
- Sleepy heads, Roll along, Nudge, Last drops, Moving parts, Springs and bubbles and The big page. Each chapter opens after 8 pages of the one before.
- Daily page
- One page a day, the same for everyone, with the same creatures, and a result to share.
- Lesson
- Three little pages that teach drawing a line, why your ink falls, and how the ink meter gives stars.
Tips
- Press ▶ Go with no line first: watching the page play shows you what goes wrong.
- Your ink falls. A line drawn in the air drops onto whatever is below it.
- A short line in the right spot beats a long one anywhere: try again with less ink for three stars.
- A line across a brass nail hangs on it; across two nails it stays put.
- There is usually more than one way. Once you have three stars, try a different shape somewhere else.
Who will like Ink Lines?
Ink Lines is for anyone who likes a puzzle with more than one answer, from a one-line roof on the first page to seesaws, nails, springs and bubbles later on.
It is also for fans of twikoi's art: her sleepy creatures, bugs, planets and treats fill every page, and her guests come at the end of each chapter.
