What is Odd Garden Card Club?
Odd Garden Card Club is a small deckbuilding card game: you climb a garden map, fight her creatures in turn-based battles, and grow a deck of cards along the way. Every card is one of twikoi's little drawings, like Star Strike (an ink star) or Heart Shield (a dotted heart).
A run is 12 steps up the map. You choose your path through fights, tough fights, quiet spots to rest and treasure, and at the top waits the big one: a boss that wakes up angrier at half health.
It is easy to learn, with a step-by-step tutorial, and there is real strategy in which cards you take and which you skip.
How to play
- Pick your hero. Every hero has 60 health and the same starter cards, plus one special card: Ant Trail (Stinger), Stare Down (Watcher) or Spiky Pot (Gardener).
- In a fight you get 3 energy and draw 5 cards each turn. The number in a card's corner is its cost.
- Tap a card, then tap a creature to play it on them (or drag it up onto them).
- Check the icon above each creature: ๐ก๏ธ 7 means it will hit you for 7, ๐ก๏ธ means it will block, โจ means it gets stronger, ๐๏ธ means it will weaken you.
- Tap End turn when you are done. The creatures act, then you draw a fresh hand.
- Win a fight to add a new card. Climb the map and beat the boss at the top.
Features
- 29 cards made from her drawings: attacks, skills and powers, each with an upgraded version.
- Clear card words: Block, Bites, Weak, Exposed, Thorns and Strength, explained in the how-to.
- Creatures with personalities: hard hitters, blockers, cheerleaders that pump up friends and splitters that split in two.
- 10 charms, like the Ink Key (+1 energy on your first turn) and the Petal Bow (heal after each fight).
- Rest spots to nap (heal) or practise (upgrade a card).
- A run that saves between visits, and a results screen with the creatures you met.
Modes, levels and unlocks
- New run
- A fresh map and three heroes to choose from. Your run is saved, so you can continue later.
- Daily Club
- The same heroes and the same map for everyone that day.
- The map
- 12 steps: fights, tough fights (which give a charm), rests, treasure and the boss at step 12.
Tips
- Skipping a card is fine. A small deck draws your best cards more often.
- Block when a creature shows a big ๐ก๏ธ number; attack when it is blocking or buffing.
- Exposed plus a big attack is the fastest way to win long fights.
- Rest before the boss if your health is low; practise if it is not.
Who will like Odd Garden Card Club?
Odd Garden Card Club is for people who like strategy and card games, especially the build-a-deck-as-you-climb kind. It is smaller and gentler than most games like it, so it is also a good first deckbuilder.
The tutorial walks you through your first fight, and the card words are explained in plain language. A full run takes about half an hour, and you can stop and continue any time.
